I Went For My First Run

last week I went for my first run, I have said to myself for ages to get started and never did. My anxiety was holding me back, looking back, after achieving my first run, I don’t know what I was so worried about but, I’m so glad I got over that obstacle.

One of the things that I want to tick off my bucket list is running the London marathon. I know it’s a big goal, I want to do it so I can raise money for Parkinson’s UK as my family have been affected by this awful disease.

I have never run before in my life and I’ll be honest I didn’t know where to start but after watching several youtube videos and reading up on beginner tips that would help me I felt ready to attempt it.

It was only a 20 minute run, but I did feel better mentally after completing it, even though, my legs did ache slightly. I’ll get better at maintaining my breathing the more I do it, it’s like what they say, practice makes perfect right?

I haven’t wanted to start running just based off the intention of doing the London marathon one day, the main reason was for me to feel better mentally, to ease my anxiety, give my mind a bit of TLC.

I can already feel the difference, even though that may just be the sense of accomplishment at the moment, I’m looking forward to the outcome the more I do it.

I’ve also recently been taking part in the workouts that some people do on an Instagram live and that’s also been helping me. Considering I was someone who has never worked out before at all, I really do need all the help I can get. At home workouts are fortunately getting more popular considering the situation that we all find ourselves in currently, but I’m also happy about that because, the idea of going to gym once this is all over freaks me out, I’m someone who likes to work out on their own. Going out running was a big step for me, so I’m taking one step at a time. But I will probably continue with the workouts at home even when lockdown is finished because I find it comfortable.

Have you been doing any workouts in lockdown?

  1. Running is awesome! ….when you’re in shape lol! After several years in the army I began to have a little love for a good run. It can be like a slow drive through the countryside.
